Security for Older Homeowners

Ease of use, emergency access, and peace of mind built into every installation.

A different approach to security

Security that works with you, not against you

Security screens for older homeowners are not just about keeping intruders out. They are about ease of operation, emergency access, peace of mind, fall prevention, and the ability to live independently in a home that is safe by design.

The Securelux consultation for an older homeowner is unhurried. We take the time to understand how the home is used day to day, which doors and windows see the most traffic, and what any particular physical considerations might be. The product and hardware choices we make are guided by that conversation, not by a standard specification.

What matters most

Six priorities we address in every consultation

  • Ease of operation: screens that open and close without significant force
  • Emergency egress: the ability to exit quickly in a fire or medical emergency
  • Fall prevention: screens that stop falls through open windows
  • Peace of mind: genuine security, not reliance on remembered routines
  • Low maintenance: products that do not require regular servicing or battery replacement
  • Consistent team: the same people for installation, service, and any follow-up

Hardware options

Easier to operate by design

Lower-friction lock cylinders

Require less turning force to operate than standard cylinders.

Larger key heads for better grip

Easier to hold and turn for people with reduced grip strength.

Lever handles instead of standard handles

Lever-style handles can be operated with a closed fist, reducing the demand on finger and hand joints.

Hinge tension adjusted for easier opening

Securelux installers can calibrate hinge tension during installation, reducing the effort needed to open and close doors.

Emergency egress

Safe-S-Cape: exit quickly when it matters

The Crimsafe Safe-S-Cape screen provides the same high-strength security as standard Crimsafe screens (550-750 joules of impact resistance), but includes a keyless quick-release mechanism on the inside.

In a fire, medical emergency, or any situation requiring rapid exit, the occupant can open the screen from the inside without a key. From the outside, it remains a secure, locked screen.

For older homeowners, Safe-S-Cape is particularly recommended on bedroom windows and primary living area doors, where a blocked exit could be critical.

Key management

Access control options

Keyed-alike systems
One key opens all doors and windows throughout the home, reducing the number of keys to manage.
Master key systems
A master key opens all locks while individual keys open only assigned doors. Useful for homes with carers or family members who need access.
Restricted key systems
Keys cannot be copied at a standard hardware store. Reduces the risk of unauthorised copies being made from borrowed keys.

All key options can be discussed during your free home consultation. Securelux will recommend the most practical system for your household arrangements.
